Frequently Asked Questions
What is Integrative Medicine?
Conventional or also known as Western Medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness and uses traditional medicine and surgery to treat the illness. Integrative Medicine also known as Functional Medicine combines Conventional Western Medicine with complementary and alternative therapies such as acupuncture, laser therapy, shockwave, PEMF, Chinese Herbs, massage and exercise rehabilitation.
The treatments used at OnPoint Animal Wellness are still rooted in scientific discovery and research. Integrative medicine combines the most well researched conventional medicine with the most well-researched, evidence-based complementary medicine.

What should I expect at my first visit?
You will first meet our client service team who will welcome you into the Wellness Center. We encourage owners to be with their pet during the exam and during treatments. Jordan our rehabilitation nurse will gather an extensive history and discuss your goals.
Dr. LeFave will perform a physical exam but also do an active evaluation with your pet to see how we can best help. This usually involves walking over obstacles, balance and strength evaluations, and coordination assessments. Dr. LeFave will then do a TCVM workup to see if your pet would benefit from acupuncture or Chinese Herbs.
Once we have developed a client goals list, a problem list and both a conventional diagnosis and functional diagnosis then we will recommend a treatment plan that may involve integrative medicine, a home exercise plan, and/or in-clinic exercises.
Once the individual treatment plan is designed then our Wellness Team will help guide each owner through the treatments both in the clinic and at home. (Treatment cost is additional). We usually recommend a follow-up exam with Dr. LeFave every 30 days. This ensures each pet is improving and each owner’s goals are being met. Your first visit is usually 60-90 minutes.

Why focus on Alternative Animal Wellness and Integrative Medicine?
Dr. LeFave practiced emergency medicine for over 10 years and feels that being there for an owner when their pet is critical is very important, and helping an animal recover from an emergency situation is incredibly rewarding. However, she also felt strongly that she wanted to help pets in a different way. Instead of treating the acute disease, she wanted to help improve each pets’ quality of life no matter the diagnosis.
Animal wellness plans and integrative medicine can reduce pain, increase energy and improve mobility. Our vision is no matter the disease or diagnosis we can help your dog or cat have an active and pain-free life today, tomorrow, and into their golden years!
